Wraith

I am tired
But I am awake.

We’ve been through worse.
More cliches to settle in discourse.

The window, left open for you to sneak in,
arouse the dead outside in the night air.
Climb in bed and pretend you never left.

Still, here I am. Awake.

Alone.

The eerie sound of angels too lazy to carry me into dreamland.

Longest breath from me to you.
Across the room.
Sleep til daybreak
The wraiths at night wait.
3 a.m., I feel it

Daybreak and its ugliness.
In contempt.

The room comes alive.

Dismissed

Trapped under wheels, rolling pins and needles,
Turned dust and mist into black tinged lungs.
One final roar, coughs in fits and starts
Lost energy, drifting long enough to forget it mattered at one time.
Then the point of no return, no turning back, nothing held and nothing lasts.
You know this by now.
No one cared enough to make it worthwhile.
Jettison into cyberspace, we’re filled with waste.
We’re dismissed, we’re less descript, we cant believe it came to this.
We’ll never be missed.
Gravity pulls you into the abyss.

Drink

I’ll keep you in this bottle,
watch you ferment.
You’ll age just fine,
when I slide the cork screw in,
you’ll satisfy my errant need for wine.

Because I am weak,
with you in my mouth,
swallowing each gulp,
until I black out.

So close to my lips,
each swallow
adds to your allure.
I’ll push the stopper back in
and come back time and again, to refill.
My lust palpable,
Cold, and bitter at first.
The need to taste you,
quenching my unshakeable thirst.

Because I am weak,
with you in my mouth,
swallowing each gulp,
until I black out.

Thaw

It feels 10 degrees colder in here than it is
I can’t feel my extremities,
my feet colder than the snowflakes hitting the pavement.
The clock stares at me from behind the walls again, closing in, a thaw begins.
No Sunshine- why are Mondays always the same?

I feel distance straddle the dwindling minutes,
til I forge ahead to the land of faces and forced smiles.
I’ll play happy if it’s enough to pull me through the chilled air.
It’s the only way out of here.
Swaddle me in your warmth.
The love of two souls,
who have grown so cold.
Together.
Apart.

Picture

Saw a photograph of you yesterday,

not sure we’re the same

I’m happy for you anyway.

Remember that time on the rocks, those moments on the beach, that single afternoon and the stars when the world went on snooze,
simply stopped being, like you and me?

The longest sigh, stretching from here to the moon.
Space rocks awaiting carved initals.
Lost underneath a giving tree.
Together in hidden view, a secret no one else could see.

I saw your photo and I knew.

Life moves, the stillness holds onto the tepid heart.

Each pulse broken in pixels and feigned happiness.

Your pic for someone else to adore,
Whoever that may be.
Saw you in a photograph and my small world reappeared.

Moment in time, dragging a curl into a smile.

Presence

Whimsical mystique of this dance between you and me,
served us well in the looking glass self,
sky held down, knuckles out, primal wealth.

Stole a glance and begged for one more,
as lips quell for the return,
the heart suspended in air, head to floor.

The triumphant pulse of broken veneer, undercurrent hum of fluorescence,
quiet under sheets where not a soul could interfere.

Sweat infused satin, you trembling to never be left alone here.
My promise to come back to you,
pining for my flesh as I draw near.

Climb a Tree

I’m gonna climb a tree, break off every branch on the way.
Guarantee myself this time I’ll be free.
The garden was dead, except that last rose,
I pulled the thorns off and lay them on the sidewalk so you could see the path,
find me stranded.
Our escape from the past.
Your bare feet, so gingerly, avoiding the thorns pricks along the way.
Save the sky, the view is perfect.
From this treetop I can see all I need.
I need you and the clouds.
I need the moon when the sun goes down.
I need safety from all the onlookers who’ll never understand.
